Ancient Segesta, probably founded by the Elimi like Erice soon became one of the most important cities with Hellenistic influences in the Mediterranean.

It is situated between ochre coloured hills which contrast with the infinate green valleys of the area. The archaelogical park is dominated by the elegant Doric temple and its enormous amphitheatre.
